Incorporating photographic images with encaustic painting is what originally drew me to this medium.  A photograph is printed on cardstock premium paper and glued to the hard substrate and then encaustic medium is added on top of the image.  Alternately a background is created using the encaustic medium and the photograph is printed on very thin paper (think tissue paper) and then embedded into the wax.  Additional encaustic medium is applied on top of the embedded image.  The whole photographic image or just a portion of it may be used in the painting allowing me to really be creative.  The wax gives the photo an ethereal quality that I just love.  Photoencaustic wedding paintings or family portraits make great gifts.
